According to the United States Chemical Industry Association (USCI), the top four chemical manufacturers, which also include BASF, are all among the top five chemicals in the world.
The chemical industry has been at the forefront of the recent controversy over a new class of synthetic chemicals, which are being sold to hospitals and other healthcare facilities to treat patients with cancer, diabetes, asthma, Alzheimer’s and other ailments.
The new chemicals are made by Dow Chemical, BASF and Syngenta, and they have been linked to widespread and serious health problems.
In recent months, the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO) have also called on the US and other countries to phase out all new synthetic chemicals.
According to USCI, the top chemical manufacturers in the US are Dow Chemical (NASDAQ:DOW), BASF (NASdaq: BASF), DuPont, and BASF-GE (NYSE:GE).
Other companies in the top 10 include Syngentech, Dow Chemical and ChemChina, which is based in Hangzhou, China.USCI says the industry has an annual revenue of $23.6 billion, with a profit of $4.3 billion.
